Ice cream, what’s your favorite?
So I will admit it, though I do not think it will come to anyone’s surprise that I am a lover of Ice Cream. I will blame it on the job I had after being a paperboy, which was scooping Ice Cream at a local drug store. At that time I can honestly say I detested Ice Cream, the sight of it would turn my stomach. That’s what happens when you are dealing with any food day in and day out, for hours on end. Now that I find myself not hunched over an Ice Cream counter or defrosting the main freezer every other Sunday my taste for this frozen delicacy is back.
Now back in the day Thrifty made some pretty bomb Ice Cream. Then came Haagen Dazs. Pints of HD were thrown back with reckless abandon in the wee hours of the mornings. Oh, those were the days…or at least they seemed to be at that time. No worries about the waistline, just some chocolate Ice Cream and some Bailey’s or Tequila and we were good to go.
With the awakening of all things food, Ice Cream quality and brands have bloomed in the past 10 years. I still like my HD from time to time, and here in Dubai I am always on the lookout for pints of Green & Black’s. This search is beginning to resemble desert mirage, so I am forced to settle on Green and Black’s chocolate bars from time to time. That does not mean that I have succumbed to living a mundane existence here when it comes to frozen desserts, it just means that sometimes life throws you a surprise.
That surprise came on one cold (can I say that) here in Dubai when we collectively found that we were getting Movenpick Ice Cream. Sounds like a big thing? Maybe not to layman’s but with months of back door wrangling…waiting and (a first for the GCC countries) it was monumental. Finally some Swiss civility and quality arrived has arrived, and we (I) were all excited.
The hype aside, Movenpick Ice Cream is some of the best Ice Cream I have tasted, period. With little to no overrun, the product clings your palette allowing the flavors to mingle and mix in your mouth. Taking a cue from Greg (formally) of the Porto Vista, I am willfully tasting each tub prior to service to make sure it is fit for consumption, much like Greg and his bacon. If you are in the GCC or Dubai and are looking for a treat that is currently almost impossible to find here, stop by and get some.

My favorite ice cream is definitely Haagen Daz in dulce de leche flavour ! I simply love it ! And also, Ben & Jerrys in chocolate fudge is absurd.. when I was working at Macys, I used to have one of this almost every day (I know, I’m crazy, but at least some times I changed by the frozen yogurt one). Never tried Movenpick though, whenever I have a chance, I’ll try it =)
Good to know about Movenpick…have to try since I stop by that place (for Tea Junction) every so often. My fav ice cream place in Dubai isn’t on this list – it’s called Naturals and sold in some little corner of Karama (in a restaurant called Govinda’s). True to the name, it’s got tons of fresh fruit in it – and interesting fruit, like custard apple or chikoo or other flavors you wouldn’t typically find in the mainstream ice cream market.

I live in sharjah and i dont think there is any place in sharjah that i can find movenpick ice cream.
I would really appriciate if you could tell me where exactly would i find it in dubai.

Hello and good day to you. The closest place to Sharjah to get some Movenpick Ice Cream is the Movenpick hotel in Deira. Here is a link with the phone number and address,

West 14th New York Prime (on the Palm Jumeirah) has it and any other of the Movenpick hotels that are open.
